At Last, Common Ground

Gisela Marin isn't the first mourning mother to channel her grief into activism.

But if she has her way, she will be the last.
I'll drink to that.

Well, at least she admits that it's young gang members who are getting them illegally. But why does she think that any more laws will stop these mutants? So far NYC's "wonderful" gun laws have done NOTHING to criminals. And an adult with a registered gun? Carrying concealed? In NYC?? What is she smokin'??

Funny thing. The same newspaper ran not one but TWO consecutive days worth of stories about this lady's tragic loss.

I'm not able to find ANY stories about the crime itself.

What about the shooter? Was he a random kid with a random gun shooting at random or was he a gang-banger shooting at another gang-banger when this woman's daughter got hit?

Would she prefer the gang-bangers shift from bullets to improvised explosives? Maybe driving stolen vehicles into crowded cafes in order to run over their rivals?

The gun doesn't cause the violence. The violence uses the gun.

Even if (and you won't) subtract every firearm from the nation's shores the violence will continue.

If her daughter had died at the hands of an inept surgeon would she try to ban the sale of scalpels?

Gee, maybe it's because stupid parents don't teach their kids about guns. Maybe it's because we've got the "if it feels good do it" folks running things, or the "want it, get it, got it now" folks who can't work out there problems but can slap a condom on a banana.

Let's get rid of cars for kids, that way they can't do drive-bys.

hyunchback, I was wondering if it was ever going to go into any details on the crime. Not surprising.

Two things of interest in that quote.

First, and not surprisingly, the assailiant had to breaking many existing laws having the gun (being 17 and all).

Second, and somewhat surprising, she was hit once with a .25 caliber and died as a result. I didn't think shots that unlucky ever happened in real life.

I have to agree with the general tone of the comments - my question is who else was in that group sitting on the wall and what were their relationships with the assailant?

I feel sorrow for a mother's loss and am glad that she's trying to do something constructive with her grief, but I do believe she's chosen very much the wrong approach.
