A Tangled Webb

Here are Google News links about the aide to Sen. Jim Webb who was arrested for carrying a loaded handgun into a Senate office building.

Some are pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians having guns while DC residents may not. True enough. I need to find Webb's position on gun rights for District residents before adding my two cents. I understand he's generally considered a "pro-gun Democrat," whatever that ultimately means.

I don't know his grade (GOA, of course).

GOA was unhappy with his recent anti-gun vote:

On January 18, 2007, the Senate narrowly passed the Bennett amendment to strike language in S. 1 that would infringe upon the free speech rights of groups like Gun Owners of America. Offered by Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT), the amendment struck requirements that would have required GOA to monitor and report on its communications with its members, and could easily have led to government demands for GOA’s membership list (a.k.a. registration). The Bennett amendment passed by a vote of 55-43. A vote in favor of the amendment is rated as a pro-gun vote.

Remember, they're trying to disarm us so we cannot rebel meaningfully when they shove that North American Union down our throats. That's really what all this gun control is about, folks.

"The staffer, Phillip Thompson, told police that the gun belonged to Webb (D-Va.), authorities said. Thompson also said he forgot that the gun was in a briefcase and meant no harm, they said. [snip]

Police also found two fully loaded magazines, officials said."
