We're the Only Ones Progressive Enough

[T]he San Bernardino County district attorney's office alleges that Adelanto Mayor Jim Nehmens and his wife, Kelly, used the fireworks sales to line their own pockets.

They were arrested Tuesday, each charged with three counts of grand theft by embezzlement...

Former Councilwoman Zoila Meyer was forced to step down two years ago after authorities determined that she was not a U.S. citizen...

In 1997, Philip Genaway, a former Adelanto police chief, was sentenced to a four-year prison term for embezzling nearly $10,000 from the department's canine unit. That same year, two officers went to prison for beating two handcuffed suspects and forcing one to lick his blood off the police station floor.
"Progress Through Unity" indeed. And remember, in Spanish, "adelanto" means "to go forward"...

The only question is, "Forward to what?"

Looks like you found a real pack of 'winners' there, David.

The corruption seems to be becoming more prevalent and widespread. Imagine that things will start coming apart at the seams soon enough.....

Adelanto is a small town in the California high desert. I used to have to drive through it often when I lived in Ridgecrest. Adelanto was well known for using their "only ones" as a source of town revenue. It was not uncommon to receive a speeding ticket for 1 or 2 mph over the speed limit. The impound lot was right beside the main road through town, and it was always full.
