Dial 911 and...

...well, you know...

Six minutes is a pretty good response time. But, you know, chronology matters. The principals of preemptive justice suggest that it would have been better to make the call seven minutes earlier. This sounds ludicrous, but no more so than pointing out that the Cheshire Duo had no prior violent crime convictions, or that every psych evaluation is a vector for future violent criminal activity.

So will the authoritarians pour from the cracks to point out that had he been decapitated when he performed his first crime as a juvenile, this never would have happened? Will the bleeding hearts praise the sentencing and demand more rehabilitation? Perhaps the safety nannies will demand gun-free zone signs posted on all residences in Palm Beach, and the word "gun" removed from all literature? Since background checks didn't remove this man's will to do crime, or prevent him from getting a weapon, perhaps the NRA would consider lobbying to include all government records in NICS for people named "Anthony"? Was the weapon painted black? Did it have a flash supressor, folding stock, high-cap magazine or a pistol grip? Maybe there needs to be a black market Form 4473 with the additional question: "Are you going to shoot your girlfriend in the face with this weapon?"

Sorry, but I'm so sick of the stupidity and waste created by people would wouldn't know which end the bullet comes out of, and would probably foul their underwear if someone discharged an air gun 500 feet away. The threat of violence doesn't demand disarmament, and it doesn't demand a bureaucratic process, it demands the fastest and deadliest possible response by the potential victim. Now they have to spend thousands of dollars to hunt down this bastard, and try his crime in a court, all while he may commit more crimes to evade capture. Wouldn't it have been more efficient to simply stop him in the act?

A suggestion:
