When the officer showed up, he inspected the bag and saw nothing had been stolen. He also asked Righi for his driver's license. Since Righi was not driving his father's car, he refused to give up his driver's license, but was happy to give his name and address at the officer's request. Many time and I mean hundreds of thousands of time. The DA or lawyers on the staff tell courts that people who have followed police orders that were in violation of their rights. Didn't have to follow those orders so a dismissal of charges on those grounds is unwarranted. The courts in most all cases agree with the DA's office.
Just curious: Who here thinks that they would be charged with simple assault and resisting arrest (assuming they survived) if they punched a cop in the face?
These stories are indicative of the type of person law enforcement seeks to employ. They now look for the lowest common denominator, the type of person who revels in bullying from a protected status. The person who will follow orders no matter how illegal, immoral, or offensive to decency that order may be, so long as they retain their power to lord over others.
Every now and then they fuck up and get a good man in uniform, then they do what they can to get rid of him or burn him out.
The population of law enforcement officers is relatively small compared to the rest of the population, but wouldn't it be interesting to see some statistics on their rate of misbehavior in relation to the general population. I suspect we shall never see that study.
