"This is a tool, an additional tool, that the police departments across the land can use," said Sen. Marty Golden, R-Brooklyn. Golden said he plans to push for a similar bill in the Senate.Because the republicans are our friends.
This is why you can't donate to the party. Individual candidates, yes, but party contributions can be spread out to enable police statists like Smarty Marty here.
I'm sure there will be some gun owners who support him anyway, because the democrat would have really wanted to hurt us.
And then we wonder how things got this way.

no Marty, you're the tool.
The lesser evil is still evil.
If we're going to be considered violent felons anyway...
... then there's no need for US to play nice and fair anymore.
We will, because it's our nature, and because, like the Branch Davidians at Waco, we really, really don't believe in our heart of hearts that our government officials will hurt us when it makes zero sense to do so.
Dith Pran explained it all for us, rest his soul. Some people are NOT like us.
Yeah Anon,
The Killing fields was a great movie. Many don't even know who Dith Pran was.
"Opponents, though, say microstamping technology is unproven and could add hundreds of dollars to the cost of pistols. Supporters say it shouldn't cost more than $1 per weapon."
Only $1 per weapon? Well that's not so bad then, but to quiet those critics, why don't you just put that into the language of the bill? Make it part of the law that whoever owns this proprietary technology will go to any handgun manufacturing facility anywhere in the world (at their own expense) and install the machines, train people how to use them, perform all necessary maintenance and repair on the machines, and in return the gun manufacturer will pay them $1 per microstamping handgun made (not per part, per handgun since that's what the supporters are promising). I'm guessing the backers will quit pushing the bill in a hurry if such language is inserted.
Please note before people start flaming me, I am not normally in favor of this sort of legislative interference in the free market (mandating prices), but when I read something like the quote above it sets my Spidey-sense to tingling. I am reminded of when they were trying to pass the Income Tax amendment, and backers were promising that the rate would never rise above 10% and it would never apply to anyone other than the top 1% of wage earners. Kinda makes you wish they had been forced to make those promises part of the amendment.
