Scales Elementary School officials made the right move last week when they evacuated children from the building in the wake of a bomb threat.I can think of all kinds of phone control laws, if that'll help...
More needs to be done, though, to ensure these types of evacuations are more timely.
The evacuation was made July 1, nearly a week and a half after the bomb threat...

Years and years and years ago, David, in the fine city of Norton (right next to Barberton where I grew up), someone called in a bomb threat to the high school, apparently claiming a bomb had been planted in a student locker.
The principal of the school took a break from splitting atoms with his mind long enough to get on the PA and instruct the students to evacuate the school, but first to go check their lockers to see if there was anything that didn't look like it belonged there.
A year ago in May 2007 (i.e. after Virginia Tech) teachers at the same Scales Elementary School posed as "terrorist shooters" at one camp out. Looking for a follow up, I found this.
To David Codrea: students are already forbidden to carry cell phones, IIRC.
