An Independence Day Message from the Olofson's

July 4

Yesterday was the hardest day of our lives, writing this, right now seems to be the second. We drove David, along with Larry Pratt of GOA, to the Sandstone institution yesterday. Larry’s presence, words of wisdom and comfort were invaluable. We would be faring a lot worse today if it would have not been for him – thank you Larry from the bottom of our hearts. We would ask all of you, if you can, to please support GOA in the defense of David for this unthinkable miscarriage of injustice. This conviction MUST be righted for ALL Americans, for David, and for the 2nd Amendment of America’s Constitution. With this present ruling, anyone who owns a firearm can be made guilty of owning a machine gun.

We just received a call from David early this AM. He is doing fine, so far. He did admit that he under estimated how badly all the people there are being gouged for everything they must buy. The $200 he took with him will not get him very far. I told him we would see the he gets his allotment of $300 for every mo. Please DO NOT send him any money. We will talk to a few people on how to handle that subject, and if there is something you all can do we will pass that information on. As an example David indicated he is getting a tooth ache and a small bottle, 24 pills, of ibuprofen cost him $7.

The few people he has talked to indicated that they are treated well - to which we replied: follow your new counsel’s advice. And we know his new representation has HIS best interests in mind, as opposed to his prior.

He did ask that we pass on his address for everyone, and please pass it on so everyone who wants to can write him:

David R. Olofson
08632089-K1
Federal Correctional Institute
PO Box 1000
Sandstone, MN 55072

David also indicated that there is no e-mail, so snail mail is the only option.

We hope everyone has a happier 4th, and please keep David in your prayers.

Dave & Pat Olofson

Continued prayers for the Olofson Family.

What a sham that on this day, the day we celebrate throwing off a tyrannical government, that we see tyranny is alive and well.

"Give me Liberty or give me death!"

Did he get cheated by his first lawyer?

Please post the rules for letters and packages at this facility. I have written to prisoners before, and they have very strict rules - so if you break one your letter will not go through and you might never know why.

This is even more important for packages because, if the rules are not followed, the guards will confiscate the package and you won't get it back.

a semi-automatic rifle was declared a machine gun because it was broken.

a man is in prison because he handed a broken rifle to someone.

today, the networks will run old john wayne movies, praising war, and the glory of the state.

today, an ex national guardsman, who actually served the people of that state, will not be at home watching john wayne -- a man who made money pretending to be someone not unlike my grandfather, whom actually landed at omaha beach on d-day, and pushed into france.

depending on state laws where you live, some of you will not be allowed to purchase, possess, ignite, or transfer certain forms of ordinance, or explosives, all of which feature chemical instability which could not have been tolerated in even the most archaic and rudimentary firearms by design.

we call them fireworks.

you light them and get away. you don't choose your bullet, you can't load your own cartridges, you don't clean and lube the parts, you can't aim them in your hand, and you don't even know for sure when they'll go off.

do you have any fireworks which come close to the edge of legal liability?

i don't. i have nothing to celebrate today.

Just spent several minuted in vain looking at the nonintuitively-designed federal prison bureau website for mailing rules...

They have an email address to ask them questions but say it takes 20-30 working days to get a reply.

Good grief.

As a means of comparison, The Militia of Washington County posted rules for writing to Wayne Fincher.

They're in the yellow column on the left, and I'm assuming the rules are the same--except if we could make any safe assumptions about the fedgov, none of us would have ever heard of Mr. Olofson.

In essence:
You must include the number below his name anytime you send anything. If you do not, it will be rejected...

If you wish to send items, books, pictures, etc., please adhere to the following rules:

Inmates are allowed up to 25 pictures, 5 magazines, 5 paperback books. NOTE: Inmates are allowed to receive magazines, soft cover books, greeting cards and photos (NO POLAROIDS). All hard cover books and newspapers must come directly from a publisher (BOOK STORE, ETC.). Please note that any photos, magazines or books that show any form of nudity will be rejected by mail room staff.

On a personal note, I sent Wayne stationery, envelopes and stamps so he could correspond with people and it was rejected. They have a captive customer base at the commissary and intend to keep it that way. You can read about that misadventure and see a copy of the mailing rules as they apply to the Sebastian County Sheriff's Dept. here, but note those don't necessarily track with federal rules.

Anyone who can shed light on this--including a link to an authoritative source--please educate the rest of us.

The only reason for them to insist Dave begin serving his sentence now is petty vindictiveness and a strong belief that he will be exonerated on appeal. They're going to get their pound of flesh no matter what. And a year from now when with proper representation an appeals court throws out the conviction how exactly will they be forced to compensate Dave for a lost year of his life?
Not to belabor the obvious, but this case must be overturned on appeal or any owner of a semi automatic firearm is at risk. Dave did not transfer a broken rifle, it broke under heavy use by the borrower. It was functional when he borrowed it.
With this situation as it exists today the BATFE can confiscate any firearm and if their labs can make it double trip under any condition you are screwed.

Is there a special fund at GOA to help fund Patriot Olofsons' appeal?

Perhaps it would be possible for his family to procure an address where letters and items could be centrally collected and then sent to David so that all rules are meticulously followed and he is not denied anything we send? Also David you could post that address on your blog so that others could make use of it. I will be calling Larry Pratt on Monday to urge Gunowners to do the same and to give him my thanks for the part he is playing in this drama. Surely people, "We must all hang together, or we will all hang together."

Please excuse my mistake: I meant to write "We must all hang together, or we will all hang seperately."

David has often warned me about internet forums. I just had to peek. It is chilling to see how many on "our side" are willing to lock the cell and hide the key on Mr. Olofson. They are more than willing to kiss and lick the hands of their masters as they justify what has occured ... such a complete failure to understand Liberty.

Yes, I will be stepping out on the porch to enjoy the fireworks with my family shortly. However, I can't help but think that there will be much to fear in the coming months and years. Our list of friends grows thin.

Our list of friends ... but also our patience.

God watch over the Olofsons, and God help this republic.

The family was most certainly given a copy of the "rules." It would be a great help if they would share them with us here.

I highly doubt it would be good to bundle or collect the letters, and especially any packages, to send by one person. These would most likely be rejected as suspect - or for whatever idiotic reason they came up with.

Individual letters and packages, complying with the idiot "rules" will not only have a greatest chance of actually reaching him, they will convey (for anyone who is interested) much better the fact that David is known and respected by people from across the country.

President Bush attended the legal immigrant naturalization ceremony at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello yesterday. He opened his remarks with "I am thrilled to be here at Monticello. I have never been here before."
In seven years of being President. Doesn't surprise me.
There were lots of people protesting the war in Iraq and the detentions at Guantanamo. "Defend the Constitution. Impeach Bush."
Bush used the protestors' heckling to address those gaining citizenship about the fact that we have free speech here in America. Freedom and tolerance.

I plan on sending him letters... And from what I 'suspect', never having sent letters to an inmate before... Letters from attorneys are not subject to the same inspection that letters from non-attorneys are.

I still cannot believe that he sits in prison right now for a malfunction. It makes me sick to my stomach.

unsurprisingly, bush also suggested that we celebrate and honor the US troops planted around the world.

july 4, however, commemorates the deaths of plain old civilians who chose to fight so that a peice of paper declaring independence from an oppressive government with a standing army could make it to the printer's shop.

impeachment is not enough.

God Bless the Olofsons.

They've been through a load of crap.

Today I checked out some blogs on the Olofson case. I was appalled at the comments that people "on our side" have made regarding this matter.

Even some people who have been linked to before from WOG.

No wonder we can't gain any ground. There are too many people willing to believe that someone who has been royally screwed had to have done something wrong.

I've seen an SKS that had the trigger group incorrectly assembled. (Believe me, it can be done - at least on some models.) That rifle would double. I guess it was a machine gun.

I've seen an AR15 that had a professional trigger job also double.

When those parts were assembled in a different lower, there was no problem.

It's clear to me that a lot of the "friends" out there are not friends.

I saw some posts where one poster to WOG took some people to task. He was also flamed, and people took things he wrote out of context.

I appears there's a very vocal group of posters out there who will sell out in a moment's notice.

It looks like we can trust no one.

Reminds me of Communist Russia. People love their dogs, because their dogs wouldn't turn rat on them.

The best to everyone who supports the Olofsons.

A staunch Republican and former Bushbot yesterday admitted to me that he feels we are no longer a republic but an empire and a dictatorship. He referenced Marx and admitted that the Communist agenda has been accomplished.
Whereas before he would grudgingly agree that the laws are in place for a future president to arrogate to himself (or herself) and the federal bureaucracy dictatorial power, now he admits that it has happened.
If THIS guy gets it...

Can we get the Attorneys address so we can forward cards and letters of support to the family?
How are they supporting themselves?
3 kids and a wife? How are they buying groceries, paying the mortgage? We need to let the children know that Daddy is a good guy and that the gov't sometimes makes mistakes.
Are we going to step up?
Will you when it is me and mine?
