A man who claims two off-duty police officers kicked, punched and pistol-whipped him in a case of road rage has filed a $25 million lawsuit.
We talked about this here.

I have mixed feelings about this.

Injustice should not be treated like winning the jackpot. The people paying will be everybody who didn't do it.

I have no problem financially ruining the criminals who did this to him. And if it turns out their "superiors" had culpability for a climate tolerating citizen abuse, go after them, too.

I dunno--maybe the citizens deserve to pay, too--they continue to vote in oppressors to rule them with enforcers...

People read these cases and say "He probably had it coming. You should do what the police say, immediately, without question."
Maybe $100,000 per uninvited "touch" would be a good compromise.

David, everyone doesn't pay for these lawsuits, just the homeowners. What is needed is for the people in the area county, cities what have you to pay for these lawsuits with sales taxes and even on food. That would enrage people to demand this kind of crap to stop. However, most homeowners are like children without a clue. They have impound accounts and their house payments go up because of property taxes and they don't know the reasons for it. (Impound accounts are for sheep who are not able to take care of their own business or have a credit score problem by not paying their bills on time) Slugging it off and being taking for the ride.
Kind of like the old words of wit. If people had to write a check to IRS once a month to pay for the taxes that are withheld from they pay, we would have tax reform.
I'm just wondering when the whale sized, junk food feed, 50 plus inch TV watcher is going to wake up. I kind of cheer on hardship and sometimes find myself wishing the economy to crash to see if these morons will wake up. What will it take is a real wonder. In fact will the fat American ever wake up or when its far too late is becoming the question.

Unfortunately David, the people will pay and should. Because they support the immunities both legal and extralegal allowed law enforcement. So suing is the only non-violent form of redress. Too bad that the sheep have fixed the game to protect the wolves.

Reminds me of a young man I used to know who beat a ticket in his home town by proving beyond a doubt the officer lied. That not only had the traffic offense not occurred, but that it was not possible to do what the officer claimed he witnessed.

He immediately started being harrassed. His work took him out of town a lot, but every time he returned he would be ticketed for something, always for something that had not occurred. The cops were working him in rotation, taking turns writing him tickets. He hired an attorney from a neighboring town. The attorney told him to pay the fines and send him the copy of the tickets. This went on for two years and a bit. He had nearly become destitute paying fines, even though he worked his ass off and was gone a lot. Finally, one day he called his attorney to tell him he had another ticket. The attorney said, "That's enough, don't pay it." The upshot was that he won a $2.5 million lawsuit against the city.

Whereupon all his neighbors and friends were angry with him because they were having to float a bond to pay him and it would raise their taxes. The kid was distraught because people he had grown up wouldn't even speak to him. He asked me if he should forgive the debt to get his "friends" back.

My advice was "Fuck 'em", where were all these friends and so-called good people of the town when they saw you being regularly abused. Where was all their anger so long as you were the only one being fucked with. They aren't your friends and have just demonstrated that they never were. If they had been honorable people they would have demanded of the city that this crap stop whether or not it was happening to a friend or a stranger. But that they called you friend to your face only makes it obvious they are not worth your effort to rewin their approval. Take the money and run. With that much money you can move to another small town, of your choice, and live well. Hell, you can even come in off the road and be home with your wife and kids. You didn't do this to them. They did it to themselves when they didn't stand for what was right."

He took my advice and I haven't seen him since. I hope he is having a blast on the money.

We've had cops kicked off for assault. They were civil sued as well. Doesn't happen enough.

Straightarrow, you are possessed of an unusual degree of moral clarity. For this day and age, anyway.

It's a pity what the young man had to go through to get justice.

Yeah, Olds, it was a shame he was so dispirited and downhearted. He was truly a nice young man who had his naivete shattered. That can be extremely painful.
