University presidents from a wide range of U.S. colleges are calling for a debate over drinking laws, arguing that the legal drinking age should be lowered to 18.
But whenever anyone suggests allowing armed adult students on campus, these same college presidents point to irresponsible drinking as a reason why that's not a good idea...

AHHH... The circle jerk Logic is at it again
There are college students who are trusted with biohazard organisms and nuclear isotopes, and there are college students I personally wouldn't trust to rake my lawn.
BUT... as a whole, they have the right to be trusted, the benefit of the doubt the government won't give them or US, and they have the right to arms, and I will fight and die for their right if necessary.
Drinking happens anyway. Hiding it is when people overdo and get hurt. Forbidden fruit. Part of he fun.
Guns get on campus anyway. Usually it's the absolute WRONG people who have them and people get dead.
TRUST our future decision-makers, and they may prove worthy of trust.
Like with gun control on campus, we've done it the way it is for a long time, with limited benefits, or none. let's give the other way a try.
They're not children anymore, and neither are we.
The average age of the armed forces member is still 19.
This is all about liability. Colleges have been unable to control binge drinking by underage students so they want to make the problem go away by making it legal. If this flies we will see some pompous statements by school administration about how while they deplore student drinking, since it's legal they can do nothing about it. Problem solved. So they loose a few students from drunk driving or alcohol poisoning, oh well, there are always plenty more where they came from.
Uncle Lar, I don't know how long it's been since you graced a college campus as an undergrad but as a recent graduate, the illegality of it has done NOTHING to curb college drinking by "underage" people.
Unless you want colleges to hire on SWAT teams as execute door to door searches every single Friday afternoon on colleges all across the US, legalizing things is the only way things can get better.
I don't binge drink, I did my freshman year. I've learned since then to 1.) enjoy much more expensive liquors and 2.) moderate my drinking so I can actually enjoy what I'm drinking.
There are already alcohol poisonings, rapes, Drunk driving etc. So let's actually punish the behavior that violates people's property rights instead of making blanket judgments about people's age.
