Let me say right up front that my opinion here will be biased because Sarah is a friend. I met her for the first time about six years ago when she was running for Lt. Governor of Alaska. She's been on my radio show many times and with the help of listeners here in our home town she was elected to office by an
overwhelming margin.
With that out of the way I'll tell you this.
Sarah is real.
She is an honest genuine person. She truly cares about Alaskans and the people of her community. She dared to take on the Republican party here, and took that fight straight to the people. She's called for the resignation of the Head of the Alaskan Republicans and forced the former Attorney General to resign by bringing his corrupt actions to light. She has been a crusader for eliminating the 'Good Ol'Boy' politics.
And as far as the 2nd Amendment goes, let me tell you a little story.
About a year ago a friend of mine, who is a local Class III Dealer, called me complaining about how our local Trooper detachment was delaying or just outright refusing to sign several Form 1 transfers that had been submitted to them. These transfers were from a couple of Class III Dealers and other Class III holders.
I started to make some calls and after getting nowhere with the Troopers, I finally called Sarah. Although she was extremely busy she told me that she would look into it and get back to me. I thought 'well that'll take some time', but it was only 2 or 3 days later that right in the middle of my talk show I get this call out of the blue from the Commissioner of Public Safety! He tells us that the Governor had spoken to him and made if very clear that the Troopers should be doing what they are legally obligated to do, and that he apologized personally for the locals not doing it.
Long and the short, no more problems with transfers.
We're gonna hate to lose Sarah, we need her to help get us back on track to prosperity. But I think the country needs her more.
Now I can vote for McCain, without having to hold my nose so hard.

Now, call me a cynical old lady -- but it seems like a real possibility that Sarah was chosen exactly for the "hold your nose" voters.
And does anyone really think she would be allowed to upset the apple cart by the established PTB?
If she got too uppity, I'm sure there's someone perfectly willing to do a "Vince Foster" on her at any moment.
The boys and girls in Washington DC play rough, and they play for keeps. Miss Glenda Do Good won't fit in there if she's as advertised, and she won't do any good at all if not.
Heads they win, tails we lose.
When you vote, the only thing that gets elected is more government.
No argument.
And I've said she will be totally marginalized barring circumstances that result in her assuming the top spot.
But the fact remains, people will be voting, and one of the two major parties will produce a "winner."
Whether this results in any real differences in the end, whether it speeds things up or slows things down are all considerations we should give thought to. Whether we'll be better off with gridlock or need to hold our noses or abstain altogether are all considerations we should give thought to.
Whatever we choose, we need to recognize there will be moral consequences. In this sense, each vote--or non-vote--does matter.
Do you think McCain will be young enough to run in four years? Assuming everything goes well and McCain doesnt run after one term I would like to see palin at the top of the ticket.
it's clear she was chosen for the "hold your nose" voters, but the nice thing about the law of unintended consequences is that it doesn't necessarily turn a bad situation to a worse one.
the pick puts her on the map, whether or not mccain wins, whether or not he is young enough to run in four years. that's four years for only one more ron paul republican to stand up and run with her in 2012.
i've said before, i'm just not going to vote, but i'll more happily suffer these such fearless leaders rather than any other ones that have been waved around on tv.
It's not cynical, mamaliberty. You've probably studied a little bit of history and realized that each regime is worst than the last with very few exceptions. VP breaks ties in the Senate. THAT'S ALL! If she goes up against McCain, she'll be ignored or worse. A vote for McCain is not a vote for Palin, even if she does have a solid philosophy. After Clinton lots of conservatives fell asleep, and look what Bush did. The software is now installed, though not really running, for utterly abject tyranny. McCain is a snake, and this just proves how shrewd his advisers are.
She'll probably be flamed for her "lack of experience."
That being said, I know a number of people with absolutely zero political "experience" that I would prefer as President over either of the two contenders. The Constitution is not really that complicated of a document to understand.
Don't count her out.
Alaska has an infinate number of places an "only one" brother in law could make an Uppity housewife disappear. Yet She went on to be Mayor, then Governor while removing some of the entrenched corruption in her own party on the way.
She is a real reformer and should be good for us and US.
If they win, I have hope that some of the corruption will be wiped clean.
Ned, the thing is, if "experience" means being the chief executive of a government, she has more experience than legislators Obama, McCain and Biden combined, and throwing in Hillary for good measure. If that's the litmus test, she's the hands-down leader of the pack.
In regards to the "Vince Foster" remark above, I have to reply with one of my favorite facts about Sarah Palin. Her Secret Service detachment feels safer when she's around.

OK, so millions of voters who were ready to stay home, drink, and sulk on election day are now motivated enough to turn out and vote against Obama.
Unless you are too busy practicing small unit tactics with your militia, and honing your 600 yard rifle skills for the big meltdown, why don't you just stay home, suck one thumb and stick the other so you are airtight and hold your cynicism close so it keeps you warm at night.
Palin took on REPUBLICAN corruption, has 80% approval in Alasaka, and looks to be the best VP selected since Teddy Roosevelt.
Don't vote, some of us grown-ups will make the decisions for you.

Oh, I'm voting. But I won't be wasting my vote and destroying my integrity by voting for OBama or McStain.
The "lessor of the evils" mindset is how you loose. It causes you to surrender your principles and compromise your conscience. It gets you to ACCEPT the socialism willingly and pat yourself on the back for it, telling yourself you did a good thing by "not getting the greater evil". They don't win by beating us in a couple of electiongs, they win by getting us to compromise our stance by accepting their "lessor". Better to loose an election to the greater evil and save your soul.
If you you are voting for this liberal Democrat(McCaine) in order to not get Obama, you are the reason our county is in the mess its in. Much more so than if you voted strait democrat.
to mamaliberty: you are absolutely right. I'd heard numerous "no more holding my nose" comment online and in Real Life and more than one "I'll never vote for (Hillary) Clinton.
then, the Obamacon appears from almost nowhere, with enough really scary associations to turn once intelligent people into falling into the "must defeat the Democrat" mode.
the best comment I've heard, *after* McCain announced his Veep
choice is "it's still zu nevela v'zu treifa." (IOW, neither is kosher)
same game as 1972, 1988, 2004, and probably other years. this looks like the last inning though. I'm not assuming *anything* about 2012.
