[A]bout 500 British regulars crossed from Charleston Point to Lechmere's Point intending to confiscate some sheep and cattle from the Phipps Farm. They seized a drunken American sentry, but other sentries saw this and fired a few shots at the British. This commotion startled the surrounding American force and spread an alarm. Col.
