Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan dismissed the notion hunting rifles and shotguns are not the type of weapons authorities need to be worried about, noting they can cause harm if poorly safeguarded or stolen by burglars. And what does "taking these off the streets" mean when this story is clearly about ordinary citizens removing them from their homes?
"Taking these off the streets is as important as the taking the handguns off the streets,'' he said.
Y'all still want to throw the rest of us under the bus?
Don't take my word for it that the government wants to separate you from your "sporting arms." Take Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan's.

Hey hunters:
Sucks to be on the poked end of the stick, doesn't it?
Want to reconsider the methods you employ in defense of your weapons (that's what they are), namely the "throwing the rest of us under the bus" part?
I do want to make it clear that when I use the term "Fudd" I don't mean it as a blanket insult to sportsmen--only to those who either do nothing to protect rights or those who sell us out.
perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. but the tumult soon subsides.
time makes more converts than reason.
thomas paine, common sense.
It really shouldn't matter if that term offends them now, should it? This makes it a new game.
Maybe all the Ammo manufacturers should start placing the quotes of these guys on all the boxes of ammo they sell.
Sort of like the milk cartons. "Have you seen my 2A rights? Last seen with Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan."
Word verification today? brood.
I will make a prediction: This first time a police officer is killed in an anti-gun state through their armor with a bolt action hunting rifle, the gloves will come off and you'll see these "high powered sniper rifles" heavily regulated.
Then the sportsmen who would throw the rest of us under the bus can play catch-up on a front line we've been dug in on for years. Welcome to the trench, buddy! Hope you do better than we have and don't have any illusions or starry-eyed delusions of glory. We've been here longer, know how to fight, got the scars to prove and none too happy that you've been thrown in with us.
Hope you like sleeping in the mud puddle.
Seriously, it's only a matter of time before some anti-gun legislature makes a serious move to restrict "devastating multi-shot street sweeper shotguns" and "high powered, long range armor piercing sniper weapons of war".
David,
I understand the disclaimer, but it's unnecessary for this simple reason:
The people who are on our side and are hunters won't be insulted by the term, because the context makes it obvious we're referring to the "you don't need 20-round magazine" type. There's no way that anyone can make the error of assuming we're asking them to support a PETA membership drive.
It's bullshit that we have to keep saying "I don't mean YOU guys!" because if we need to say that, then I at least DO mean "you guys."
If you're in favor of true gun rights, then as far as the bus goes you are on the throwee side, not the thrower side, and so it's completely obvious that you are not a "Fudd."
There really is no mistake in the definition. The only people who get offended by the term Fudd, are the Fudds. And the wimps on our side who are scared of taking a principled stand and would rather we "not alienate the sportsmen" who are in fact alienating us, not the other way around.
So let those scumbags be offended, I say.
AC:
The term you're looking for is "intermediate sniper rifles.
The VPC laid the groundwork for that in '99 with financial support from the Joyces Foundation of which Obama was a board member.

Kennedy continued that work with his attempts to ban (w/ Obama as a cosponsor) hunting ammo like the 30-30.
