Tucson Police are furious with a local punk band for their latest album entitled "Kill a Cop For God." [More]I can understand that. I can also understand objections to unauthorized use of the photograph. And seeking remedies for it.
What I can't understand is the ignorance of comment posters calling for fining and putting the band in jail because they are offended. The system works. The sheep demand to be fleeced.
I also can't understand why "Authorized Journalist" Lupita Murillo doesn't know how to spell "plagiarized."

I wonder why we never see cops speaking out in such upset demeanor when one of their own kills a citizen.
I've looked until my eyeballs hurt to find any statement by any cop anyplace making a statement about the Oakland murder. A young man had his arms chained behind his back and was on his belly. Begging for his life because a cop was in the process of breaking his neck. The young man's pleads were to not kill him because he had a baby of his own at home. So the other cop who was involved in chaining his young man up. Pull his gun out and shoots the young man in the back killing him on the spot.
I'm still looking for a statement from police.
In fact I'm still looking for a statement from police when Craig Pryer killed Karen Knox in San Diego. A CHP murdered a wonderful young woman and he's been on death row forever. Still no words of outrage by police. My point is, what would have happened if Karen Knox had a handgun and killed Officer Pryer in his act to kill her. Would she have been put on trial for her life? The sad answer is, yes.
Murder by anyone is just that murder and citizen or police officer's death should be treated the same.
Not that i think this sort of thing is O.K.. But, wasn't the reasoning behind us having to except pornagraphy; In order to have free speech, we must except speech that is most offensive to us? I believe that was the justification for it in the SCOTUS? We should apply that to firearms. In Order to have the right to bear arms freely, we must be excepting of those arms we find most offensive! mthead
David,
Another instance here where my Individual rights absolutism comes into play.
This is the best part, I'm using a quote from A decidedly anti-gun movie and screenwriter to get it across.
"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours."
The song's not very good, but I'm not really a punk rock type. It's just marketing and poor at that.
There is no right not to be offended, you can make one up or claim it under the 9th or 10th, but guess what, that wouldn't trump anyone else's rights.
One commenter said "Freedom of speech without regulation is anarchy."
Now... I know what he MEANS, but what he said actually is "Freedom of speech without anyone second-guessing and punishing you is living with no ruler over you."
An-archy, "absence of rule," just as monarchy means "rule by one."
I like that.
Couple of links up, the sleeping security drone photo has drawn comments. Apparently that website's visitors routinely use "sh--" where we would say "stuff." And they have that right, just as I have the right to click away from their unimaginative vocabulary.
I know the Tucson police have DONE bad things, not just sung about them.
Has anyone heard the song and know if it's any good?
Guys, look at the posts underneath the article. So much fuss over a SONG, and yet, when police officers kill innocent civilians, as they do on a daily basis, no one speaks out against it.
Look at the case of the man who was EXECUTED by police a couple of weeks ago in San Fransisco, absolutely nobody complained. Even the family members of the victim was silent.
Thats some pretty damn good brainwashing right there. People are taught from birth that "authoritites are ALWAYS good", just like Fahrenheit 451. "It's GOOD to burn books, isn't it?"
