Leading the Charge

No doubt some folks will say this is not enough. [More]
Ya think?

Particularly when one of their big complaints is he doesn't support enforcing existing federal gun laws enough?

Gosh, citing Richmond and Philadelphia and Project Exile as gun control success stories.

Why didn't I think of that?

Thing is, this is big news. What a gift for the antis!

Here all this time we've been saying gun control doesn't work, even citing stuff like
“the US National Academy of Sciences … failed to identify any gun control that reduced violent crime, suicides or gun accidents.” This was “from a review of 153 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, and some original empirical research. The same conclusion was reached in 2003 by the US Centers for Disease Control …”
and along come the Lairds of Fairfax to cut off criticism by cutting our legs out from under us with a little last-minute (blundering or sabotage?) under the guise of getting involved.

Good grief. I'd just as soon they'd have stayed out of it.

No doubt some folks will say this is too much.

here's what I had to say about this over at Uncle's this morning.

"I notice in the letter that NRA claims success for Project Exile in Richmond, Va. and Philadelphia,Pa., gun control legislation that NRA wrote and lobbied for.

Project Exile has been an abject failure in both instances. Just an observation as to the self-serving nature of their analytical proclivities.

I am glad that they finally spoke about Holder’s nomination. But their response is rather tepid and way late. Where was the call for the membership to inundate their senators with their opposition to Holder? Where was the sustained effort to dislodge this abomination from the moment of his selection? Where was the call for the membership to make their displeasure and subsequent reaction at future elections should this nomination succeed?

Sorry, but for me, this doesn’t get them a pass. This was a wink and a nod. Sort of their way of saying “Hey look, we must do this to appease some of our membership and continue in power here. Pay it no mind. We stand ready to cooperate with you.”

I know a great many of you will dismiss what I have just said. Just wait until after Holder is confirmed and see how much they do cooperate. Then you can really be angry with me seeing it early."

Actually, I'm kinda looking forward to seeing how the NRA apologists decide to spin this--first, they said that the NRA was entirely correct to stay out of it. Now that the NRA finally has gotten around to saying "Holder is bad because he didn't play along with our ideas for enforcement of citizen disarmament" (to paraphrase), is that going to be the right thing, too?

Consider it stolen

Biggest gun control promoter in America.

Seriously, folks, don't send your money to them. Better off leaving it at the Brady doorstep. Same effect, more bang for your buck.

Stolen? I know where it came from.

Sincerely,
a gushing douche nozzle.

You mean flaming.

From memory:
"A joint task force of DEA, ATF, city code enforcement officials and local police has taken 20 gang leaders off the streets in the past year."
Not because of guns and Exile, but because of citizens who've reached their limit and complain complain, report, report, and never let the bad guys lie low to rise again.
Unanswered: If 20 gang leaders are gone, how long will they be gone, and how many are left? Richmond is a medium-size city with more than its share of public housing -- the largest projects development south of New York City. A map of underclass subsidized housing and a map of murders line up perfectly -- and the same year after year.
The city tried to write into its housing assistance leases a no-guns clause. That was thrown out. Killaz like to rob, rape and kill at motels near the airport. The projects are a 15-minute walk away. They know if you just got off a plane or are getting on one tom, orrow, you ain't got no gunz, maan.
Sometimes they're mistaken, and die, and things get quiet for a while.
Exile? There are people meeting in City Hall and the state Capitol this week who would LOVE for any gun, your gun, my gun, to be an Exile "illegal gun."
How does five years in a foreign state translate to rehabilitation, Sarah? When gangs are the replacement for family in the modern age?
Comments, Wayne?

The post by Anonymous at the "Why didn't I think of that?" link is correct. You can't buy a handgun LEGALLY inside the city limits unless you have a concealed handgun permit. That's true whether you intend to carry concealed or not. VIOLATION ONE.
That law, introduced in the 1930s or thereabouts, convinced gun sellers to head for the counties. Even if you HAD a CHP, you couldn't buy a handgun legally if you wanted to without leaving the city. VIOLATION TWO.
Exile, long story short, is violation THREE. "An illegal gun gets you five years in federal prison."
Sunday night, a couple of men beat, stabbed and robbed a black Baptist minister in his church. Gee, think he was anti-gun and let people know it? It's hard to tell Brady propaganda from NRA "resistance is futile" propaganda these days.
Ironically, it was the Free Will Baptist Church.
