I wonder if anyone who would engage in such acts could so compartmentalize their life that criminal behavior wouldn't manifest itself in other ways, and if that went unnoticed or just unreported?

Don't you think a Police Officer should be given the benefit of the doubt? What are you...some kind of cop-basher?
You don't know what was in his mind when he had to make a split second decision (to steal that tractor)!
You don't know what kind of day he had. He might have just left the scene of a multiple theft and that weighed heavily on his mind at the time.
Police face these kinds of situations all the time and they have thousands of hours of training that you and I don't have. Don't you think that if it was a Cop what dunnit, then it was probably the right thing to do?
People go f*%@ing around the the law and all hell breaks loose!
