Of course they do. And if you are using windows or any other microsoft program, they probably already do.

Investigate Linux operating systems and programs. They are not nearly as vulnerable to the "back doors," and they are easy to use.

Learn about encryption and use that too.

If this old lady can do it, so can you. :)

Want to go even farther in this? Look at Boston T. Party's new book. One Nation Under Surveillance —Privacy from the Watchful Eye

There should be a high price for such power and I think I know what it should be. Everytime an agency of the government gets into private internet communications under a set-up as proposed the head of the agency is then executed and a new head appointed.

Enshrine that in law. Automatic execution for the directors. If they are truly patriotic and want only to do what is best for public safety and enforcement of the law the pure of heart will be willing. The others, not so much. If that could be made into law I say let them do it. And under no other circumstances. Ehe execution of the agency head to be carried out before any access is obtained can be used then by his successor. This requirement should be part of the application process, much like giving up your fingerprints for a CCW license. No execution, no access. Simple, effective and guaranteed to be used little.

Whoops, there goes that freedom of speech and association thing.
Soviet bloc countries tolerated this kind of thing for decades.
But not all of us are socialists, here.
