A Simple Solution

'If their names are published they may become targets for some people,' said Mr Cummings. He said they would be 'exposed' as having firearms at their properties. [More]
So we don't approve the permits and remove the guns. It's not like we don't know where they are. Plus you'll know they're in good hands rather than the hands of thieves.

Problem solved.

Isn't it something--their concern is that their names will be made known, not that they aren't being allowed to keep their property. I guess their "sport" just isn't that important to them...

I actually didn't realize there were any legally-owned handguns kept at private residences left there. We'll soon set that right.

Somehow, the plea of, "May I please have my rights?" sounds kind of stupid. I have a better idea. The sound of unalienable rights sounds just like a gunshot, ja?

I hope none of us are feeling too superior to those sheep over there. Because I suspect we are, in the main, just like them.

That's right, just like them. I suspect that when gun confiscation and total ban passes here, we will repair to the courts instead of the guns as we should. And just like the people of Ireland and England, after the courts rule against us it will be too late to use the guns we no longer possess.

Anybody think that is a harsh judgment of our people? Anybody? If so, you are a fool. Look at our venues where bans and confiscations have occurred. Millions of people, millions, all acquiesced, some went to court and sued for their rights and when denied accepted their lowered status without a fight.

I think we have a lot more Sebastians than a free people can afford. The pragmatics will do what they can so long as they can do it without risk. When risk enters the arena they will flee it. And they will sing to the heavens how demented, vicious and misguided those of us who died resisting were. And we will have all died because we will be the too few and will have been overwhelmed piecemeal at times and places of leviathan's choosing.

So don't get too smug. I think we may not be better than the sheep we bleat about.
