Henick Court Documents Online

In regards to my Gun Rights Examiner two-parter yesterday:

Authorities charge gun owner with brandishing…his finger
and
Do Surry County deputies have conflict of interest in gun brandishing case?

The court documents are posted on Virginia's Judicial System website.  To access:
  • Go to http://courts.state.va.us/
  • In the left sidebar, scroll over "Case Status and Information" to "General District Course" to "Case Information" and click on that link.
  • Enter the CAPTCHA code.
  • Select "Surry County" court and enter "Henick, Paul" as search term.
  • Select either "OBSTRUCT JUSTICE W/O FORCE"/Complainant Deputy R. Hill or "POINT/BRANDISH FIREARM"/Complainant Wyche, Albert Lee.
Or you could just trust me when I tell you this is what you'll find (Click to enlarge):

I'll be contacting Securigard and the county administrators of Chesterfield and Surry. And state attorney general Ken Cuccinelli. And the Va. Dept. of Transportation that oversees operation of those ferries across the James River, from Surry County on the south side to the historic Triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg and YORKTOWN on the north. Irony seems to be the theme of our times.
I am disgusted.

With your permission, David:

Contact link is on the left. No individual emails listed, so one does for all.

Deep in Rep. Bobby Scott's district.

Not to forget the VDOT "leadership" and the Commonwealth Transportation Board.

The GRE Collective is very informative.

Most have probably heard of Sam Wolanyk by now, infamous for his "Don't touch my junk" remark. But before that, he sued for false arrest -- he was arrested for 'brandishing' and yes, he got into an argument.

But San Diego 'settled' as reported here.

Small world.

Well, it seems Surry itself in in violation of the law:

Surry County Prohibition on Loaded firearms

The problem - for Surry - is that they are prempted by the General Assembly. See here.

Note in particular subsection C.

Well now, the law is the law.

Thank you, Mr. Codrea. My email to the general VDOT "contact us" form was forwarded to the Hampton Roads district supervisor. I want to go straight to the top.
SINCE the Surry deputy confronted Mr. Henick about "whether this [openly-carried in accordance with state law] handgun `is legal,'" I guess we need to thank the NRA for their "illegal gun" propaganda campaign. Again.

Surry County. Famous for delicious Smithfield ham! And river beaches and square miles of boating and fishing, and rural vistas of corn, soybean, peanuts, forest, more deer than people (24 residents to the square mile, 2000 census population around 7,000, same as it was in 1790). Where the population of half African-American, half Caucasian coexists peacefully.
Recently also famous for Michael Vick's dogfighting continuing-criminal-enterprise, and now this.
Makes you wonder what else is going on there in Mayberry.
Thanks for shining the light, Mr. Codrea.

I got an email back from VDOT Commissioner Greg Whirley. Can't beat that response time.
He says he'll ask the Hampton Roads District administrator to look into the situation.
The Hampton Roads District information officer sent me a canned email response with helpful hints on how to not slow down the security men guarding our infrastructure. If I get an actual response, I'll share.
