Wait... never mind staying away from King (probably a wise public hygiene decision anyway). Wouldn't Shuler have to stay 1000 feet from himself?
Oh, you know they'll make an exception in the law for themselves... and the only ones.

He's wise to do so.
"Shuler says his staff members have also gone through the training and background checks needed for the legal permit to carry concealed handguns."
Then, after they each demonstrate "good character" to their sheriff or police chief, they can get a permit to BUY a handgun. They tell me that's not infringement.
Or will this be batch-processed since it's a congressman's employees? Maybe a form lettter from Shuler will do it for all.
I don't know Shuler's stand on rights for us common folk, but either he and his people should be treated just like us, or us like them. It would necessitate greater care in the crafting of laws.
That could be fun, too. If they use their standard language for exempting congresscreeps from laws, they might exclude themselves from the list of... people who get magical gun-repelling force fields.
North Carolina has required a permit to purchase for a long time, its original intent was to restrict blacks from gun purchases since you had to bring two persons of good character with you to vouch for you, and the cops ran background checks on everyone.
I used to live there, I don't know about now, but you could get as many permits as you wanted at the same time and they had no expiration date either, last time I went through the process, I got five of them. The Concealed Weapons Permit process may have eliminated this program.
I bet Mr. Schuyler wouldn't go for constitutional carry on his life. He also lives in one of those states in the South which makes it difficult persons from other states to carry there (South Carolina being the other one, that I know of).

There is still a purchase permit required in NC for handguns, unless you have a CWP.
