I don't have time to look for it right now, and probably won't before the weekend, but I swear I've read this exact article before. Maybe more than once. Thinking around this time last year... maybe they trot this argument out once a year because it doesn't go anywhere... I seem to recall someone (maybe you or Kurt) doing a breakdown of all the the failures of Cho's professors, etc that lead to him being able to get away with this. The only thing "new" in this version of the article is the addition of Loughner.

One wonders what kinds of guns they're issuing. If the mentally ill are cured, can they keep them or do they have to return them?
This is a serious problem. Whether you are a gun-rights supporter or a gun-control supporter, you probably believe that we need to keep firearms away from the mentally ill.
I hope that Washington can find a way to enforce some form of mandatory reporting into the national database.
Can the mentally ill still vote, assemble in public and get their letters to the editor published in the local paper? Do you need a warrant to search them and their property? Are they required to use pre-sliced bread and only use spoons to spread their peanut butter when making their peanut butter sandwiches? Are they allowed to live among us where they may spontaneously do highly undesirable things?
Think about it. If I think that you might do something undesirable, how many of your civil liberties am I allowed to deprive of you?
If someone mentally ill really wants to procure weapons and is free to act, then break ins or cash enables many things, licenses or not.
