Now, if only we could get SBRs and suppressors removed from NFA and get the MG registry re-opened. Life would be good.
Since the NFA '34 and GCA '68 merely establish a "Mother, may I?" regimen for collecting a $200 tax to possess items that you have a 2nd Amendment right to own, along with a huge inefficient, ineffective bureaucracy to enforce the regulations, simply have Congress revoke them both. Surely the cost of enforcement is greater than $200 per NFA device, with no great demonstrable positive effect. Over-control of legal trade is completely independent of illegal trade and in fact may encourage illegal trade. The individuals who seek automatic weapons are either wealthy (legally earned or otherwise) or have the deep resources available to business and government as the high initial cost of acquisition and recurring cost of ammunition limits their usefulness to most users, somewhat like high-performance, low mpg vehicles. The public understands the usefulness of mufflers on motor vehicles and lawn maintenance equipment and insists on their everyday use. Suppressed weapons are equally useful.
Besides, I do not wish to pay a $200 tax every time I buy scouring pads or fiberglass insulation.
