Warning Shot???

My position is, if there are threatening intruders on my property, I don't want to let them even know I'm there, let alone armed, until they wake up in Hell and are told what happened. [Read]

Don't you just love the judgment pronounced by the "Only Ones" at the end of this story though?  Hell, they'd have raided the wrong house, shot the damn dog and dismissed it all as proper protocol...and the cheerleading "Authorized Journalists" would have withheld their frickin' names.

Warning shot! BIG mistake. Never fire a warning shot... but if you do, never admit that it was a warning shot. If deadly force is justified under law, use deadly force. Then shut up! If you plan to obtain ANY weapon with the intent to utilize it to defend yourself, your loved ones or your property, immediately obtain a copy of your state laws and become intimately familiar with the statutes addressing justification for the use of force. Follow those guidelines and refuse to talk to law enforcement officers without an attorney present.

The thing is, warning shots are noble. They give the would-be invaders concise, distinct notice that their demise is imminent.

They're not always wise or proper, and certainly not in the legal circumstances that Americans find themselves in, but the sheer fact that mercy is being offered is nothing to dismiss lightly.

Personally, I do not plan to ever fire warning shots nor do I ever recommend them - but do recognize that the act can simply be from a desire to turn a criminal aside without actually visiting harm.

I've known that warning shots are illegal for years. Besides, warning shots are both stupid and futile. Badguys don't heed warnings. Besides they don't deserve a warning. I'm with you. The first indication the badguys ought get that you are armed is when they wake up in hell.
