At Grant's Creek, Col. Francis Locke's militia had been destroying the bridge when Lt. Col. Tarleton and his Legion arrived. The Patriots held up Lt. Col. Tarleton's dragoons for over three hours, until his mounted troops were finally able to cross the river and circle around the rear of the militia. Col.
