Yeah, Deputy Fumbles, that shotgun is a handgun, excuse me, a rifle.
I see they also offer "hunter safety classes." It would seem the most important hunter safety tip would be to put as much space between yourself and these goons as you can.

After reading the story, I noted it said "Except as provided in subsection (2), a person who assaults another person with a gun . . ." when explaining how and why the property owner was charged.
Apparently the Sheriff and his deputies, and the local D.A. all need to go back to school.
Self-Defense against trespassers who you don't know, and you don't know if they're armed, and you don't know why they're there, is not assault.
Because if it is, the we would all be in the right to "arrest and detain and disarm" every single cop we see, unless that is, we know them to be of good character, trustworthy, properly trained, and not under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or personal out-of-control emotions.
Using the Sheriff's logic, how could we be wrong?
After watching a plethora of these types of videos, I'm wondering: what sort of guidelines are the police being instructed to follow?
Seems that anytime LEOs encounter an armed citizen, that citizen is the "bad guy." They then respond accordingly. Kill him, pay off the family, etc, etc.
Officer Friendly is a thing of the past. Now we see people, who may or may not be if stellar character, pummeling LEOs and everyone watches or, even films the incident.
Get used to it, LEOs. When almost everyone understands that you are employing Stasi strategies and tactics, you will learn that less and less people will come to your aid.
A thug is a thug, no matter the colors he wears. And if the thug's colors match that of local LEOs, who has apparently been trained that everyone but a LEO is the enemy, it's only logical that those on the receiving end of whatever "training" the LEOs are receiving will stand by patiently and watch - whenever that "training" ends up with the LEO being beaten back into a civilized demeanor.
Here in AZ, there was a recent case tried where a LEO killed a man whose mother had called the police for help. The mother cried on the witness stand, because she felt responsible for his death. Soon, no one will call the police, because they understand that they'll likely be met with armored "Judge Dredds", unidentifiable, in armored vehicles, who will Tase, beat or shoot anyone or any little dog that appears "threatening." And, everyone now knows, the killers will be operating under "standard procedure."
I predict that very soon, crime stats will be lower because almost no one will call the police for "help."
Typical Tub-O-Goo behavior on the part of LEOs. It's a rifle/shotgun/revolver/pistol - oh yeah - I mean, gun.
Maybe this PD gets paid by the doughnut.
