The underlying connotation of "troll" has changed since USENET days: I well recall we used it in the fishing sense of tossing a baited hook out behind a moving boat to see what might bite. Today, "troll" is an ugly creature living under a bridge waiting for an unwary traveler to come along. I'm not aware of a newer term for the older meaning, and that's too bad.
Why not "troller"?
