Great point! This nonsense gun banners recite about the "training" cops receive is hilarious, and pretty clearly done from people who have not observed cops shooting or found out what their training consists of.
Qualifying once or twice a year with ridiculously easy guidelines, as most cops do, does not make some great shooter. Most can't even properly grip the pistol, let alone shoot well.
I don't think people are worried about the capacity of cops to hit the middle of the bullseye. Just because someone can hit 2" closer than another doesn't say anything about how responsible they are. Cops have bosses, built-in oversight, and avenues for people to report them if they don't act responsibly. The checks and balances may not always be 100%, but it makes me feel more secure than Joe Camo with an AK-47 strung on his back who I have no idea who they even are.
Of what value is the semimythical oversight if it has no more function than to rubber stamp any action as "in keeping with departmental policy." At least the armed private citizen is fully responsible for any projectile with no recourse to qualified immunity.
