The change is recent.
I realize it's a private corporation that gets revenue from affiliate fees, but they also get exclusive access to the business of the whole people.
I received this comment from an activist who tried mightily to make up for what those with reach did not do:

Rush Limbaugh complained as always, but didn't lift a finger to organize an intelligent campaign. His staffers could easily have done it, but he didn't even bother to ask folks to mindlessly "call your representative" (even if your rep is Boehner or Pelosi). None of the conservative groups, Tea Party groups, gun groups or immigration sanity groups lifted a finger to organize and activate. None of the candidates for speaker lifted a finger. No organization. No real intent to win. Why? Conservatives could've easily had 4 votes if they had actually tried, instead of just publicly whined and stroked each other. This is the most pathetic "campaign" I've ever seen, and it's no accident that it was "managed" by the shared fantasy of the "Tea Party".
It's become more painfully obvious by the day. Conservatives don't want conservatism to win. The don't want to save the USA. They want to whine and ask for more money, mainly to pocket but also to use for more of the same feckless "strategies".
