Well... I am trying to read the linked article carefully and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Is Mr. Yoder, the instructor quoted, saying he believes the State should compel people to use his services? I don't see him saying that. It may have been edited out, or I may be misreading. What I do see him saying is that he believes training is beneficial, in a world where so many people get their ideas about firearms by watching the idiot box. If that's as far as it goes, I think the man has a fair point. So long as it doesn't come out of my pockets, I don't begrudge the man his livelihood.
If you patronize public ranges, if you go to indoor pistol ranges, you're probably going to see an awful lot of bloodcurdlingly stupid behavior by some of the patrons. You will see people shooting with one hand and blabbing on a cell phone in the other, and muzzle sweeping everyone on the line, and worse.
I think there are a lot of people who would benefit by some training. Am I saying I believe the State should mandate it? No.
