Not really. It's not the people who are pushing for more gun control. Their rulers are afraid that if the general population gets too upset, then they rise up and - as Jefferson wrote so many years ago - "throw off [their existing] Government, and to provide new guards for their future security"
All the current European Ruling Elite are doing is securing their own grip on power. But that is how any ruling elite acts. Their power is so very much more important (to the elites) than the lives of those over whom they rule.
