And what photo does WaPo choose to run with the story about expanding offshore drilling? One of a non-profit named Clean Seas attempting to clean up a spill from an offshore drill, of course.
The editors at the Washington Post know the drill, too. Anything to help the "Coal makes us sick- Oil makes us sick" crowd.
One word.. dependency... They want the US "dependent" on other nations for energy....
So. After years of dependency on unreliable (and antagonistic) foreign sources of oil, America becomes energy self-sufficient using modern extraction techniques.
Now, however, we must all switch to electric cars because ... reasons. One thing: motors in electric cars are quite small compared to their industrial brethren. In order to pack sufficient power into such a small form factor, motor manufacturers have had to vastly increase the power of the magnets used in these motors. To do so requires the use of rare-earth metals which help achieve the requisite magnetic density. The bulk (> 85%, IIRC) of rare-earth metals are found in ... wait for it ... Communist China.
What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

When the ChiComs smelt these rare-earth minerals they do so in an environmentally manner, leaving behind nothing but fields of beautiful wild flowers and babbling streams of crystal clear raw water!!!
