It doesn't matter if she then destroyed it further or gave the remains to the police. For a period of time she was in violation.
In terms of her being a gun owner, if you're an FFL who knows about this and you sell guns and ammo to this loudmouthed politiucal opportunist against rights, or her husband (and what an interesting dynamic that must be), you deserve to be boycotted.
As an aside, I wanted to find out more about this guncriminal and came across this telling comment of support on her website:
