Are there legitimate reasons to be a Muslim, Mormon, or Scientologist? Are there legitimate reasons for publishing articles on birth control and how to use it? Are there legitimate reasons for standing outside a induction center handing out leaflets opposing the draft?
These are more than rhetorical questions — they are precedent-setting questions to which the US or various state governments once honestly pretended they did not know the correct answers.
The correct answer to all of them turned out to be “freedom, dammit; leave my rights alone!” — as will the answer to this one.
If we ban items because they MIGHT be used for BAD, how will we have things to STOP them from harming the GOOD ?
Divide the number of murders in the U.S. in a year by the number of firearms owned by the public. 17,000 murders / 350,000,000 = 0.000048 % (and that if the firearm is used in a single murder, but semantics). So 99.999952 % of firearms a year are not involved in murder. And the solution is remove assault rifles and murder will be eliminated ?
You are joking, right ?
