The impetus for the shift towards an increasingly liberal platform appears to be related to the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Janus vs. AFSCME. In what was ultimately a win for the First Amendment, the court decided that public employees cannot be required by states to pay “agency fees” to unions. Prior to the ruling, public employees not belonging to unions could still be forced to pay for union services in 22 states. [More]Once the "fundamental transformation" is complete, that'll change.
