For too many Pols in today's reality, the focus is not on preserving or changing anything. They, in fact, have no strength of convictions because they have no convictions. Everything is a bargaining chip that can be traded or kept depending on whether or not it impedes or assists their drive to come closer to the levers of power.
Consider the guy you probably know who wants to be the leader of the militia or gun club who doesn't really give a rats posterior about either, he just wants to be in charge of something.
I try to avoid those people like the plague.
