Happy Birthday, Mommy

My Mother is 96 today.

She still swims laps and walks a couple miles most days.

Here's the card I made her, front and inside:
For the record, she was gentle and loving in spite of my many provocations. And Dad didn't have to raise a hand because just the look and the low-key but dead-serious tone, along with assured and consistent commensurate consequences, were always enough to make me rethink if I really wanted to keep pushing.

Wow! You made it???
I would have guessed it was a genuine American Beatings card.

Happy 96th, Mrs. Codrea!!!

Congratulations to you and your mother, I am envious of all those who can enjoy the presence of their parents as I lost my mother to cancer at 43 (I was 11) after a 3 year battle. In the more than 50 years since, I cannot help but wonder how her continued presence might have changed my life. Cherish her, David (as I am certain you do), and write down memories of yours and hers for your family, even if it is a fragment or a couple of sentences. Thank you for your advocacy and God bless you.

Great card, David! And as they say in Eastern Europe, "May she live one hundred years (more)"

Mothers have to laugh at their children's humor.
