The elephant is dead. Capitalism is gone, the republic is gone. What we have now is an opportunity to feed off of the dead elephant, to stockpile as much as we can, to distance ourselves from each other and prepare for the ultimate battle for survival. Call me a cockeyed optimist, I'm not sure we're there yet. In any case, I'm not ready to abandon the remarkable system bequeathed us by the Founders even if those who rule appear to be, if most they rule are oblivious to what they've allowed themselves to be swindled out of, and if many who won't be ruled have concluded it's "Game over."
