Whoa here, I remember that after the very last civil war veteran died, Congress quietly passed legislation that all civil war veterans were American veterans. Taking down a veteran's memorial is a federal offence. Who do we need to contact? Pretty sure I'm correct on this David, what do I need to do?

Take Snopes for what it's worth but they say that's "mostly false."

Per Politifact, again, not my favorite resource due to political bias:
