Because he doesn't want them to dissuade hardcore lefty Democrats from voting for him.
It's a similar motivation to why Biden is hidin' from reparations -- he doesn't want to scare "moderate" Dems and "independents" away. That's why I have pressed him on it-- any chair in a bar fight and anything to erode support.
