This country has a problem with firearms being used by criminals. That is what one of my co-workers from Baton Rouge would call "a true fact." However, one can make a case that those engaging in such behavior were never associated with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or any other civic or religious organization. Those organizations teach young people things like personal integrity and service to the greater community. Those are qualities not very highly valued by the Crips, Bloods, Latin Kings, or MS13.
I'd be willing to bet the rent money you're not going to find many street gang members who have worn a JROTC uniform or spent any time on a JROTC firing range either and for the same reasons.
I was amazed to see this treatment in a newsletter called "The Veteran" -- until I saw it was VVAW, not VFW.
