They are not the Democratic Party; they are the Democrat Party.
That "ic" at the end means something.
Being the Democratic Party would mean the party working for democratic processes, democratic principles. They are not.
Being the Democrat Party means they are the party working for Democrats.
The pro-democracy activists don't expect Beijing Joe to do anything, do they? The 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party is later this year. Joe's boss Chairman Xi may celebrate it by taking back Taiwan.
