In addition to the above, the decision to let girls join caused the Latter Day Saints to pull out of Scouting, thus eliminating a reliable pipeline of committed candidates for Scouting that stretched back multiple generations.
Were girls being under-served by the Girl Scouts, which doesn't have a program to equal the head-start advantages of the Eagle rank's Community Service Project? Quite possibly. But was the right answer to alienate one of our biggest contributors of new members? Most likely not. Likewise, other Christian groups have show less and less interest in Scouting as it has "changed with the times" and attempted to be all things to all people.
