I am one of those that took direct inspiration from The Dutchman.

I learned a lot from that man.
It doesn't seem like it's been five years.

A star never shines so bright than the instant before it crescendos into eternity. It is a sad memory both that Mike's absent from our earthly fight and that 5 years passed by so fast.

I do wonder how his wife is getting along and why his son stopped updating Mike's blog.

Mike was one of my best friends; and in spite of his suffering, when my wife died, Mike came to the funeral, his clothes hanging loosely on his gaunt frame, and I said, Brother, you did not have to come here, he just replied, "Yes, of course I did." That moved me so deeply, but that was the kind of friend he was. I miss him greatly to this day. He was the only one I could visit and talk with about the things that we all share in common. My world is more empty without him, and the USA is a little darker without his light.
