Virginia GOP sees Youngkin as chance to reverse party course [More]
I'm smelling a "bipartisan effort" to get rid of the "principles freaks" and become the party of compromising Vichycons! The narrative will be it's not because of the disaster the Dems make of everything they touch, but that it's a referendum against Trump, and stupid "moderates" in Party "leadership" will fall for it.

Or, it could just be the AP's inevitable, hopelessly-warped view of what it thinks Republicans think and believe. When I read an AP "news" item, the only data I ever know for sure is, "this is the left's official narrative."
"Vichycons nice terminology but foolish.
The Democrats didn't suddenly jump to "Woke", "socialism". The Left-most part of that party advanced incrementally so as to not upset the party base while getting used to the conceepts. I think that the Democrats are still facing an internal struggle between the "Woke" Progressives and the "traditional" party and the urban "Corruptocrats". I think that President Trump did some very useful things, but even those small steps terrified the Establishment GOP that eventually betrayed the President and the nation inorder to ally themselves with the Democratic Polymorph. A conventional "conservative" would be treated even worse.
The nation does not need a"surrender monkey" but someone who understands the need for incremental progress toward a return to a Conservative form of government. If you want grand programs and a "revolution" before the "commercial break", you better look to fiction and old movies. The nation must be taught and led. "Conservatism" has been a Progressive "Scare Crow" and a ground for theoretical prattle. Sudden Conservatism (there must be a French term for that) is a fantasy for small minds. If you see a "Big Move", Go For It. Remember, however, the old "saw" that experts in war talk "logistics" and "preparation". And remember that the GOPe has joined the Corruptocrat quest for grift and profit. Even what little Trump tried to accomplish got him "rolled" by those after some wealth and power.
The current vaccination mandates are most commonly viewed as an exercise in power, but everyone is ignoring the "hardon" in somebody's wallet. Every shot puts cash from cash, medical insurance, unions, corporations, public programs, etc, into the grift pool (with a slice for the "Big Guy", no doubt.). A "useful" conservative" will understand and aim for a point of leverage. A prattling Conservative will get a teaching position in a small private junior college in downstate South Dakota. If you want a "fairy godmother", check under the pillow where you left your dentures.
Our system of "power" involves giving petty power to mid-level incompetents while directing bundles of cash to useless captains" of industry who give a slice to the "Big Guy". "They" allowed Trump to be elected since he was a "showman" and "player". President Trump did what he could with the powers he had and the time that he had, until the "Captains" betrayed him and the nation. All in all, he done good. The real "Conservative" would never have gotten near the White House and spent the time licking the treat wrappers in the trash of the "Captains Whorehouse".
Trump was an impossible "unicorn". Your "real conservative" never even left footprints in the DC mud.
Fuck "Conservative".. Figure out what is important, give it a name, and find someone who can play that tune. Accept the fact that he/she will be playing that tune on the piano in the livingroom of the "Captains Whorehouse". If you stumble on to a real "Conservative", try and get him/her a sinecure at some private college where he/she might influence a few Captain-strikers. We need "fighters". "Conservatives" can always get a job in the circus, they will never be allowed near Nancy and Chuckie's party
The microwave has beeped, telling me that the leftovers are ready..........
Virginia's GOP will be whatever Virginia's GOP voters will put up with.
Ditto for Virginia's Democratic party.
Forget leadership. They're both being drug kicking and screaming into a future they don't want but the electorate is beginning to demand. Notice that Biden's poll numbers have cratered and the Pelosi/Schumer cabal can't seal the deal on Biden's supposed agenda. Those far left ideas aren't even supported by the majority of Democratic voters, much less by independents.
People are not really in a mood to put up with as much BS as they accepted in the past.
What we continue to see is that both parties are still in denial about the lessons the electorate offered in 2016.
Foolishness notwithstanding, Mike, I think it is an elegant way to encapsulate something in one word rather than 540 and I'll keep using it.
