Every once in a while I come across something that makes me question my instinctive opposition to public crucifixions.

David, You call it "public crucifixions" sometimes I refer to "good old fashioned vigilante justice" but like you there's "that instinctive opposition."
Yeah, neither way can work-- one empowers a state to torture people to death and the other ignores due process. That said, the occasional visceral fantasy can sometimes be cathartic for a few seconds.
