I honest-to-God look at where this is happening and how they vote, conclude the odds of this ever affecting me and mine are minimal, and wonder why I should get worked up over it.

Paraphrasing an old saying, get worked up over the things you can change, not the things you can't, and train on being able to tell the difference.
Kinda like an ER in "triage mode" because more and more that's where we are or are headed.
We should suggest reducing the penalties for rape in the name of sexual equity.
