We're the Only Ones Unbelieving Enough
Police don’t believe the bear was a threat to people. [More]Right. But let Poochie bark at armored Sardaukar splintering the door at the wrong house and sit back and enjoy the fireworks.
Let's Get One Thing Clear
The Office of the Inspector General earlier cleared Holder ... [More]Damn it, it did not.
It said it did not find evidence, which is a very different thing when you consider how much has been withheld and how many key people refused to speak to the OIG.
Those Who Would Disarm Us
In New York, 11 state senators have been charged with crimes over the last six years. In Illinois, four of the last seven governors have been convicted on criminal charges. New York and California have each racked up thousands of federal public corruption convictions over the last few decades. [More]Care to compare those crime rates with, say, the membership of the NRA?

Define "Fettered"
During the past 50 years, the auto industry initially resisted many safety features that are now required equipment on all passenger vehicles. Design changes and new equipment have made cars safer and have contributed to a decrease in automobile deaths. Can’t we as a nation take similar steps in response to unfettered and nearly limitless access to guns? [More]This is undisguised bait and switch--he starts out with design and safety features, and ends up "fettering access."

Toomey being touted as key to gun deal
If you don’t punish betrayals, and if politicians know they can do so without consequences, what incentive do you give them and others who would follow their bad examples to change? dis·tort verb \di-Ëstȯrt\: To transcribe
Rather than debate me on the merits of this common-sense proposal, the gun lobby has decided to distort remarks I made at a recent forum in Denver to attack me personally. After the forum, opponents of my bill intentionally mischaracterized one phrase from my remarks, spreading half-truths to mobilize their on-line allies. This is what they do and what they have done for decades to distract the public conversation from the critical issue of reducing gun violence. [More]So now quoting you verbatim is distorting your remarks. Cool -- as long as you reserve that power to yourself, you can win every debate that way! And we should probably all forget the pathetic damage control statement that just dug a deeper hole.
Would you call this "tripling down"?
She keeps forgetting the cardinal rule:
Never go full DeGette.
Not Anymore

The U.S. factory is located in Accokeek, Maryland, and has been a staple of the local economy for years. [More]For some reason I immediately flashed on that scene from the first Christoper Reeve "Superman" movie, where Miss Teschmacher tells Lex Luthor "My mother lives in Hackensack" and he looks at his watch, looks her in the eye and subtly shakes his head.
Now it's time to see who in Connecticut wants to deserve our business.
Repeal the Hughes Amendment
There are nearly 20 individual legal arguments, each one absolutely brilliant and rock-solid impenetrable in and of itself, all being combined into one super case on steroids to repeal the Hughes Amendment. For tactical reasons, I can’t go into what the arguments are, but rest assured, each and every one is absolutely devastating to the governments’ case for keeping the ban in place. [More]Whenever anyone says "rest assured," my first reaction is to look around nervously for what I missed, and maybe see if I still have my wallet.
Just because an argument is brilliant, rock solid and impenetrable doesn't mean it won't be ignored, bypassed, overruled, deemed inadmissible...
At this point it should be obvious this isn't about what is right, it's about who has power.
Here's what I said back in 2005:
[I]f they accept either Seegars or Parker, I believe the court will not dare say there is no individual rkba. But if they find there is one, it will be so heavily burdened with "reasonable restrictions" as to ensure the status quo. They'll never admit the truth unless someone, that would be us, has enough power to compel them. Was I wrong?
I'd love to see the Hughes Amendment repealed. And I don't want to be a naysayer and discourage an effort I admittedly know nothing about by people I will presume to be patriotic and sincere.
That said, the road to hellish precedent is paved with good intentions. I need to know much more about the "tactical reasons" and who is behind this, and so do you. And in fairness, so does anyone kneejerk criticizing and dismissing it.

Obama complains about mistrust on ‘gun control’ while spreading falsehoods
“Now, over the next couple of months, we’ve got a couple of issues: gun control,” the official White House transcript of his remarks records, noting the mention elicited applause. “I just came from Denver, where the issue of gun violence is something that has haunted families for way too long, and it is possible for us to create common-sense gun safety measures that respect the traditions of gun ownership in this country and hunters and sportsmen, but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon -- by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.” [More]This evening's Gun Rights Examiner report notes that trust must be earned, so it figures the entitled expect it to be bestowed.

'Universal background check' opponents get unexpected boost from ACLU
These are powerful arguments that can be used as counters to those who would scoff if the source were simply the NRA. And as for the hollow protest that current law prevents the establishment of a database, does anyone doubt the same people who are pushing for background checks, and who would push for total citizen disarmament if they thought they could, wouldn’t end such a prohibition in a heartbeat if they could get the votes? [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes we've just been handed a gift. Use it.
Not Alone
Pavlich is not the only commentator to assert that Fast and Furious was an attempt to curb the Second Amendment. NRA executive vice-president Wayne LaPierre said in 2011 that “Fast and Furious” was a “plot to undermine” the right to bear arms. [More]You don't say.
With Spokesmen Like These...
"For example, right now if you go to a gun show, you have registered firearm dealers who are there, but if you have a casual sale ... they're not a registered dealer, perhaps they can make a sale" and conduct a background check because "you've got accessible, they're right there in the same venue, so you can have those background checks done very easily without being a burden." [More]So, Asa --who's going to pay for it, and how is that not a burden? Seeing as how we're talking about a right, how would that not be analogous to, say, a poll tax? And what happens if someone refuses to go along with your demand -- what kind of "burdens" will they be exposed to then?
And then there's this, from NRA "clarifying" their School Shield czar's position with all the skill of Juliet Johnson:
"He meant expanding it to include more people into the national instant check system," the spokesman said. "And by number of people, this is in reference to the quality of information within NICS."You know: Blanket dragnets!
No? I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word "adjudicated" is:
“This is a good bill. It is essential to being able to follow the law to keep people with mental illnesses from purchasing firearms.”, says Marion Hammer, National Rifle Association/Unified Sportsmen of Florida.Funny. I'm still not seeing what needs to be said in no uncertain terms:
Under the legislation, anyone voluntarily checking themselves in for mental health treatment would have to sign a form. The form acknowledges they had been ordered to seek help and if they do not go voluntarily, they would be committed. When they sign the form they also give up their right to gun ownership.

When Waiting Isn't Good Enough
Illegal gun carrying should be treated the same way. The risky behavior itself should be punished; waiting until something terrible happens isn't good enough. [More]Actually, I started doing it in Southern California under the advice of an investigating cop following a credible threat where he and his partner admitted to me they could do nothing until it was acted on, and who knew, my being an unconnected "nobody," that I couldn't get a permit if my life depended on it.
I'm sure these hive insects gungrabber idiotorial writers, who don't come right out and say it, but really want to make all carry "illegal," would rather I'd been defenseless. And their brothers in infringement, the "enforce existing gun laws" crowd who think such civil disobedience (that is, obedience to a higher Law) "makes us all look bad" would say I should have waited for them to get their political act together and get popular consensus to change the law. But then, I'd have never had my "illegal" DGU, where I protected myself, my wife and my then-toddler son from multiple aggressors, peaceably, it turned out, since I did not need to fire a shot once presentation was made and our new found acquaintances decided they'd rather not get to know me any better.
I didn't wait for something terrible to happen -- I prevented it. And I resented like hell that the government that fraudulently bills its entire raison d'ĂȘtre on securing life, liberty and property, would --and could-- force such a terrible choice on me.
Under the circumstances, I couldn't very well file a police report either, so the fine young gentlemen were free to move on that night to either easier pickings or a revival meeting, whichever you think more likely.

[More]Mark Karlin, who has essentially failed at every "gun control" effort he's tried over the years, tells us quite a bit about his personal fantasies in this projection piece.

And the Hits Just Keep On Coming
A group of congressional Democrats has signed on to new legislation that would mandate liability insurance for all gun owners in the United States — and fine those who refuse to purchase it as much as $10,000. [More]I'm not even going to try to fight anything like this -- politically.
