Send a Card to Bobby

...to Bobby L. Rush, that is, the congressman who wants to license and register your guns and require you to submit a thumbprint:

You can get a snail address here. His website email contact is by form, so you can't send him this as an attachment. I filled out the form in the hopes of getting an edress I could post here, but so far, no reply. If anyone can provide that, please do. I think an email campaign would be quick and easy, well-deserved, let us blow off a little steam at this subversive meathead, and hopefully p*** him off.

UPDATE: Good idea. His fax number in Washington is 202-226-0333, for his district office is 773-224-9624, and for his south suburban office is 708-385-3860.

UPDATE TWO:

Like Listening to an Old Comrade

“It was almost like listening to an old friend,” said Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Il.), adding that he found Castro’s home to be modest and Castro’s wife to be particularly hospitable. [More]

I think it's safe to say this useful idiot couldn't get a job doing gun/hunting writing for a non-leftist rag or he'd be "Zumboed"/"Coopered"--as would be our right, despite his huffs and puffs of what-kind-of-people-are-these? indignation. I also think this whole New West venture bears looking into. I note the founder has been an LA Times writer, journalism professor and globalist who has partnered with a product of UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism... with everything that implies for bringing urban "progressive" thought to the last bastions of pioneer country under the guise of conscientious environmental stewardship.

You know: watermelons.

But backed by rich watermelons nonetheless:

New West Publishing is backed by a group of angel investors, including Boulder-based venture capitalist Brad Feld, former Microsoft CFO John Connors*, and television personality Maury Povich.
Thankfully, when the agenda is complete, the elites will still be able to enjoy Rocky Mountain resort living amidst pristine wilderness (that would be off limits "wildlands" to the rest of us). Heck, we won't even have to do any new drilling, and they'll still be able to jet in! And if you play your cards right, well, I'm sure they'll need servants and support staff, for those of you in ranching, mining, logging, etc. who can't move away and get city jobs.

1Sanders not rated by NRA for 2008 cycle. Last rating (2006) was C-.
2At Large delegates for Guam, US Virgin Islands and Washington, DC--not rated.
3 Tubbs Jones died before the election. New candidates unrated by NRA.
4Based on their list, the Progressive Caucus doesn't even know their own members. Linda Sanchez is District 39. Loretta Sanchez is District 47. Linda has F grades from GOA and NRA. Loretta has an F from GOA and a D from NRA.
5Udall has been elected to the US Senate.
6GOA's rationale per below graphic (click to enlarge).

* Apparently Connors is more of a Bush RINO...but Feld is a rich democrat contributor, and Povich is, well, Mr. Connie Chung.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ, Please?

An activist told me he'd approached one of his state groups for help fighting the Bobby Rush bill and was basically met with:
"There are so many against us!? What do we do?"
Any Greek language experts out there who know how to phrase "Come and take them" as a request...?

Kill (the) Bill - Volume Two

I could remind readers that the violent criminal underclass--you know, the group from which Blair Holt's killer sprang--will still operate entirely outside the system.

Everyone knows the murder took place in handgun-free Chicago, right? And that the teenage assailant was prohibited from possessing a gun by any number of laws, prohibited from carrying it by law, prohibited from shooting people by law...

OK, but what's the danger in keeping tabs on what otherwise law-abiding gun owners own? [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner presents another aspect of Bobby Rush's insane bill.

Hey, I had a first yesterday. The column ended up as #1 in both "Political" and "National" categories. These things go up and down, so currently I'm at #2 in "Political" and #5 "National. And here's something else to consider--I've said from the start there is a demand for this, and I'm being proven right. As of this moment, John Longenecker's Los Angeles Gun Rights Examiner and Daniel White's Cleveland Gun Rights Examiner are at #3 and #5 respectively in the nationwide "Politics" category, so I'm assuming they're kicking tail in their beat cities. Understand these are new columns--heck, mine is only 3 months old. They've beaten my numbers with some of their articles, and I count on them to do it again.

And this is where I get to act like the smart-alecky kid with the "I know something you don't know" smirk. I hope to have another bit of good related news to give you later today.

How do you think the powers that be now look on gun rights as a topic with untapped potential? And do you think maybe their competitors may catch on, and open up new opportunities for spreading an RKBA message to an even broader audience?

I hope this illustrates how vital it is for supporters of this site to also support the Examiner.com work (and non-supporters can continue to ignore the phenomenon). As always, please do what you can to share the links with your friends, post them to forums, send them to your local newspaper's editors (urging them to "Feature these guys' stuff!"), etc.

What? You don't think your freedom should depend on what Sheila Jackson Lee, Bobby Rush, and Al Green will allow?

A Cost/Benefits Analysis

The efficiency and effectiveness of gun regulation is a matter of controversy. The debate over this issue has become notorious for its emotion driven rationales and hardened policy positions. This analysis is based on the belief that good laws and sound policy should be based on evidence and subject to effectiveness reviews. Accordingly, it examines the cost/benefits and effectiveness of gun registration as crime control. [More]
Article author Bruce Gold tells me:
The bill you are fighting Bobby Rush/H.R. 45 is so similar to the gun laws up here in Canada I suspect he has been reading if not copying our legislation. All of the things he wants have not effected crime in Canada one bit and have been enormously expensive coming in at about $2Billion for the Federal govt. Costs to Provinces, police, courts, the firearms industry, the shooting sports and gun owners are all in addition to that. I did a study awhile back on how successful regulating the law abiding is when "criminals" are the supposed target. I suspect the same sort of stats could be found in the US is someone wanted to hunt them down.

Kill (the) Bill - Volume Three

I know some view it as a non-starter, just a political attention-getter, not worth expending effort to oppose lest we use up "political capital" that will be needed for future battles. My own preference is to play Whack-a-Mole as these things pop their heads up, shine the light, bang the pots and pans, and drive them scurrying back under the baseboards. It's my belief that the gun activist community can be sufficiently motivated --by the proper leadership-- to walk today and chew gum six months from now. It's also my belief that if they can't be, if the detachment and apathy is truly insurmountable, we're kidding ourselves about the Second Amendment anyway. [More]

I wrap up my Bobby Rush/H.R. 45 series in today's Gun Rights Examiner.
