Ignore NRA in Massie/McMurtry Race

After more than a month-long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, Kentuckians finally head to the polls on Tuesday, June 23, to cast their ballots.  [More]
Here's the most important bit of information Kentucky gun owners need to realize: NRA is torpedoing Thomas Massie and giving an unearned "A" to a guy who not only agrees with Hillary about Donald Trump, but is endorsed by a group where a Board member very publicly used his position to call for more citizen disarmament edicts.

Massie explains the punishment grade:
Yep, so much to unpack here. NRA supported Fix NICS (Gun control). When FIX NICS was inserted into the reciprocity bill I blew the whistle by making videos, etc. I began a campaign to separate the two bills. At the suggestion of another member, we called the NRA lobbyist and told them our plan, and got their blessing that they didn’t care if we were able to separate the two bills. They said “we do policy, not process.” I began picking up steam and it looked as though my effort to separate the two bills was going to be successful. That’s when Republican leadership asked NRA to score the procedural vote and they did! So they completely lied even when I tried to work with them. I have witnesses. (see if they dinged Louie Gohmert, Steve King, or Paul Gosar as well). Long story short, they scared enough reps and Fix NICS stayed in the bill. I voted against the bill and issued another warning that the reciprocity wouldn’t pass, but later in the year they would pass Fix NICS, now that almost everyone had their hands dirty, having voted for it as part of reciprocity. Sure enough, they added Fix NICS to the next omnibus. FIX NICS encourages the Veterans Administration to turn over to the NICS database the names of veterans who for instance don’t manage their own finances - a prior law allows them to adjudicate (without a judge or jury!!) those veterans as prohibited from owning a firearm or ammunition.
I remember when Ron Paul was torpedoed, and Sharron Angle...

I remember plenty of "A"-grades that have come back to bite everyone who trusted PVF.

And Trump still owes Massie a yuge apology.

With Friends Like These

"I think we should do Fix NICS. I agree with Fix NICS," Ryan added. "That's something we're discussing with our friends on the other side of the aisle." [More]
What "friends" would those be? And who says aisle side matters?

Yep, it's in there.

An Actual Pre-Crime

REPORT: ATF Can Use NICS to Monitor People It Suspects Could Eventually Commit a Crime [More]

I guess the "gun rights leaders" who told us NICS was the way to go and even came back with a plan to FIX NICS didn't foresee evil men abusing the system?

It Depends Upon What the Meaning of the Word 'Infringement' Is

Comments from WarOnGuns Correspondent Laocoön:
"NICS, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, exists to prevent felons from purchasing guns and I have no problem with that."

Wrong.  O'Keefe needs to research and THINK about this issue.  His own experience shows it's not a criminal background check, and it does not exist to prevent felons from buying guns.  It's a system that enables government to register gun owners, punish and leave dissenters defenseless.

"Bottom line is the FBI should've never put me on that list."

No kidding, Sherlock, but they DID, and they are NOT accountable.

"So this week, I'm announcing I'm going to file a lawsuit in federal court to have my name taken off the list to correct the absolutely false claim that I've ever committed a felony."

Good for him.  Unfortunately, most of us can't afford to file a federal lawsuit if falsely denied.
And, of course, the antis are all about expanding it to include "No Fly Listers."

Funny, how some who say they're on "our side" pushed "Fix NICS" instead of condemning the damn prior restraint as an unAmerican Intolerable Act.

Double-Penetrated Again

Sens. John Cornyn R-Texas, Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, Tim Scott, R-South Carolina, and Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, along with Senators Orrin Hatch R-Utuah, Dianne Feinstein, D-California, Dean Heller, R-Nevada, and Jeanne Shaheen D-New Hampshire, introduced the "Fix NICS Act" on Thursday to ensure federal and state authorities comply with existing law and accurately report relevant criminal history records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).  [More]
Yep-- they gave 'em something to crow about.

Reciprocity and suppressors? Now is not the time!

I like this comment:
bi-par-tis-an (n.):
1) Political term for double-penetration.
I await the Fairfaxian weaselspeak defending this as a genius move, which will also mean a green light was given and probably language for the bill was either drafted or approved.

Making the Grade

Another decidedly pro-gun GOP congressman, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, was downgraded from an A to a B, seemingly because he got cross-wise with the NRA from the right. Last year, Massie vocally opposed the Fix NICS Act, which offered incentives to states to increase data submissions to the federal background check system. [More]
They've long punished politicians for being too "pro-gun."

The Bloombergians have done us a service here. This business of hiding ratings allows Fairfax to feed members all kinds of BS and then makes it easy to cover their tracks when a grade blows up in their faces.

Just Another Way to Attack PLCAA

“There is an illegal trafficking pipeline that has gone unabated in which the gun industry has done nothing to help stem,” Myrie added. [More]

With an average time-to-crime of 11.75 years, the pipe doesn't exactly seem free-flowing.

As for Myrie's "doing nothing to help stem" lie, I wonder if gun industry association NSSF will ever get a clue that they can offer up all kinds of appeasements like "Fix NICS" and  "safe storage," and their enemies will still paint them as obstructing extremists.

Less than Impressed

Herschel differentiates himself from all the prag gushers on yesterday's Kongressional Kabuki over guns. [More]

In re bump stocks, I heard them talking about that as an addition in yesterday's CSPAN coverage, but so far have come up empty searching for such language in what passed.  Anybody able to advise on that?

UPDATE-- It's in "Fix NICS":

Report: ATF Order to Seize 4,000 Guns Incites Calls for More Control

We expect overblown, gun-grab agenda-advancing hysteria from USA Today. What we shouldn’t  expect (but sadly have come to) is the same kind of hyperbole from “A+”-rated John Cornyn, who is trying his hardest to give concessions to the gun-grabbers with “Fix NICS,” which Rep. Thomas Massie just warned will be tacked onto the national concealed carry reciprocity bill being voted on this week in the House. [More]
Consider the source, or in this case, the sources.

Too Little Too Late?

Daniel Defense backs down. Some are not impressed. [More]

In fairness to them: Support for Fix NICS is what they were getting from NRA and NSSF. Those are the ones that should really be feeling the heat.

‘Take the Guns First’ Bill May be Stuck to Must-Pass Legislation

A Vote for Fix NICS is a Vote to Kill Concealed Carry Reciprocity [More]
Assuming your rep is not a safe seat Democrat, are you doing anything in the next minute?

Protected Sources

GOP negotiators ... a Republican House member ... The House Republican lawmaker ... Some Republicans ... [More]
I guess that's one way to escape accountability for selling out.

This "bill of love" is reminding me more and more of the national reciprocity/fix NICS chimera. The Dems and Rinos'll get what they want first and then renege on the rest.

At which point...

The man needs to remember people didn't so much vote for him as they did against Hillary and for the vision he promised. The danger here is if the coup-in-progress has resorted to blackmail and extortion.

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and...

Fix NICS is Not Gun Control [More]
NSSF and NRA said it, I believe it, that settles it.

And furthermore, what could be more inspiring than:
Instead of endorsing new laws that criminals would not obey, the generals and admirals should devote their energy and commit their prestige to helping ensure that the laws already on the books are enforced.
Yeah! Enforce existing Intolerable Acts!

You know, the ones criminals already don't obey.

And remember -- it's NOT "gun control"!

Whad'ya know... Ignorance IS strength.

The Voice of Surrender

Just as Second Amendment supporters need to suck it up and fix NICS, Second Amendment supporters must also buckle down, and come up with ways to implement EPROs that respect due process and which don’t serve as a tool for permanent gun confiscation. [More]
Again I disagree.

And Best of All, You Get NOTHING!

Republicans would be wise to let that reciprocity provision die and send a clean Fix-NICS bill to the Senate. The House can throw in a ban on so-called bump stocks, which let an AR-15 rifle fire more rapidly.  [More]
Do we know how to horse-trade or what?

It's Not Just "Gun Control" -- It's NSSF New and Improved "Gun Control"!

Jeff Knox talks about the "Fix NICS" Quislings, although he's nicer than me and doesn't call 'em that. [More]

Yo, NSSF: We will not comply.

Fight that if you like, and identify yourselves as siding with the enemy, but that's the way it is.

A Matter of Priorities

The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, today commended President Donald Trump and Congress for signing into law the omnibus legislation containing Fix NICS and Stop School Violence provisions. I'll Take That Bet

A prediction. When the dust settles and the fury wanes, Congress will not pass additional gun-control laws. [More]
What the hell do you think "Fix NICS" and ERPOs and Cornyn's mental health blanket dragnet are?

I Have to Say I'm Disappointed

I was hoping some idiot would show up in comments and try to ignore answering the questions and then straw man argue his way around my challenge. [More]

I do have a colleague who has been trying to get his state group -- one that is finding it increasingly difficult to cope with a growing electoral reality --   to get on board. They're still in denial, with some in "leadership" maintaining the answers is inclusiveness.

Like Europe?

And naturally, none of those objecting have even tried to address my challenge.

Another colleague told me some are pointing to individual examples of sterling supporters from the immigrant community.  That goes without saying.  When you show numbers that 75% are dead set against RKBA, that means up to 25% can be for it, albeit to what degree is unknown.

And as for outreach, by all means. Anybody see a comprehensive one, with the means and the reach to compete with media and the "education" system? Any clue as to how effective that competition will be? Isn't it a little late to be starting one, and who will control the message, the same "leaders" caving on bump stocks and "Fix NICS"?  Got realistic numbers for how long the turnaround will take, and what will happen to the legislatures and courts in the mean time?

You'd think if there were answers to any of these questions, Grover and Reason and Cato and Fairfax would be all over them.  The newest weak tea being brewed is that more immigrant children are culturally assimilating via language and lifestyles.

Yeah. Now look at the influences.  And they conveniently leave unmentioned how politically, the numbers are growing in the wrong direction. Just look at the protesting DREAMers.

And note many of influence, including "community leaders," argue for maintaining the old ways, that is, for Balkanization.

There is literally no defensible excuse any "gun rights leaders," either nationally or at the state level can offer to justify their silence on this. They are either  obtuse or compromised.  Neither kind is ultimately worth following.

And a Special Thanks to All You 'A-Rated' Republicans in the Majority!

A spending bill headed for a vote in Congress will clarify that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may research gun violence, altering a statute that has spanned more than two decades. [More]
So we're back to "dirty, deadly and banned," are we? And as long as we're repealing appropriations blocks, I don't suppose we got anything in return from Sen. Schumer on his rider...?

I mean, Republicans are the majority, right?  Yet somehow we're getting "Fix NICS," but all our "staunch defenders of the Second Amendment" are being  awfully quiet about suppressors and reciprocity...?

Good show on the CDC there, guys! I'm looking forward to seeing my coerced tax dollars used to produce Scientfic American-quality propaganda! Think of it as an ideological bullet fee!
