Open carry rally in Texas will feature manufacturing guns on Capitol steps
Sure sound a lot more interesting than a Moms rally, where all they make are stupid noises and trouble for people who just want to be left alone, doesn't it? [More]
New ATF Ruling on Privately Made Guns Defies Constitution, Logic, and English
So now, any gunsmith or machinist who is hired by the "gun" owner to complete the machining is going to be ruled to have "manufactured" a gun, and will thus be held to the same restrictions that apply to all commercial gun manufacturers. [More]Kurt's latest JPFO Alert notes BATF-You has once again gone full B. Todd.
DODGE CITY! BLOOD IN THE STREETS!
“This dangerous legislation would put Michigan women and communities at risk,” Kristen Moore, a volunteer with the Michigan Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, said in a statement. “The presence of a firearm in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that the woman will be killed.” [More]Because we all know that permits to carry concealed outside the home are necessary to commit violence inside. And again with the stupid, lying numbers that lump normal people in with a violent and abusive criminal underworld that pollute the stats and wouldn't qualify anyway.

Chaffetz renews Holder ‘Fast and Furious’ subpoena
The renewal shows the committee is resolved to continue to pursue all legal avenues to compel production of documents. Of equal certainty is that Holder and the Department of Justice will continue to resist further releases beyond a November “document dump,” relying on claims of executive privilege and the slowness of court processes. [More]This afternoon's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a continuation. Whether it will make a damn bit of difference is another matter altogether.

The Perks of Being an Authorized Journalist
Thursday, October 23, 2014 FBI warns journalists about ISIS...in America The FBI sent this alert out to news organizations and journalists this afternoon... [More]I guess one of the perks is a heads-up about maybe getting kidnapped and having your head sawed off on video. I just learned of this today from a colleague who got the memo when it came out. How they determined who qualified receiving it would be a good thing to determine, especially since, in addition to being #justablogger, I'm actually a "real reporter" with a press card issued from a national media organization and everything -- plus, I know for a fact DOJ knows about me.
They know about this guy, too, but truth be known, there are no doubt some who wouldn't lose any sleep over taking him out themselves.
But that's not the point either. Not that I particularly consider myself a target of any note, and I understand I'd probably have a greater chance of winning at Power Ball (party at my place when I do!), but we all deserve to know about this.
So look at what a search for the title returns.
The fact that I needed to go offsite from FBI.gov to find a transcript, as opposed to being able to find a posted copy with press release on site, would seem to indicate somebody made a conscious decision to play what they perceived to be a threat to human life close to the vest. Who and why?
Maybe it's there-- but it sure isn't easy to find.

Terrorists take advantage of restrictive French gun laws to kill 12
With an administration policy abetting immigration by disparate cultures with incongruous goals, such attacks may be inevitable. If and when one does happen, the probability is that it will occur in an area where private carrying of firearms has not been normalized, and is discouraged or outright prohibited. As for any and all laws in place, the attackers will ignore them, as they always do. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a place that has every law an idiot Mère could demand. So if you were in an office and animals like this stormed in, how would you like your first line of defense to be a "common sense gun safety" advocate, and what do you think the chances are they'd give those "gun bullies" a piece of their mind -- assuming it wasn't already on the wall...

If useful idiots want to make a spectacle of themselves, enjoy it. Steal the commies' tools (that's what they are, you know) to use against them.
Are you worried they'll call you a racist? They do that already, to people a lot more "liberal" than us "genocidal white devil extremists."
It's not like the names actually hurt or anything. Plus Opposite Day rules are in overdrive with this crowd of true racist loons. Time was, back before real leaders took real risks demanding real dignity, that "black space" being demanded was called "segregation," and it was properly condemned as oppressive and evil.
Notice how this only happens in "tamed" urban environments? I love that, and don't mind seeing lots more. Who knows? Maybe some indoctrinated knee-jerk "progressives" will wake up.

Bloomberg Moms' Foxworthy/Jackson demand unlikely to stop NRA appearances
The problem is, click on the comment poster’s Facebook page and she’s basically a Janis Ian fan. With that thread to pull, it would be interesting to see how many of the MILMs feature either Jackson or Foxworthy on their pages to get a rough gauge of the likely economic toll "progressive" indignation could exact on their careers. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes even a fifth grader knows you don't make threats unless you can back them up, which means being smarter than a Bloomberg chump is child's play.
Debate Settled
Had a discussion going on what constitutes a machine gun over at my post about the guy who rigged cap guns to fire when rotated by a drill.
I was still unconvinced that this would have qualified, so I asked Len Savage. Here's what he had to say:
In US v. Fleischli held that an electronic on-off switch to be a trigger if it is used to initiate a firing sequence....
Red Jacket Firearms registered their drill powered 12 ga version as a post dealer sample.
Under US v. Staples you have to "knowingly possess"....A clever US Attorney could overcome "Knowingly" since the author claims that real guns would work....
Technically speaking, in Akins the ATF claimed the "spring" because it stored energy to initiate a continuous firing sequence to be a "machinegun"....I don't see how a battery does not "store energy" to initiate a firing sequence....through the use of a switch...
By my calculations it fires 6 rounds per revolution, firing for the first 6 revolutions for a total of 36 rounds....
ATF would call it a machinegun if my company sent it in for evaluation...
Now if you rigged 36 revolvers to fire at once, that's NOT a machinegun (heavily regulated) but a volley gun....Which is regulated like any gun you buy from WalMart....(or regulated under the GCA or Gun Control Act)
Go figure???
Logic? You will not find that definition in the NFA meaning of terms. (where the commenter quoted from). So having limited tools myself, if I used some guy's carpentry equipment to make what started this conversation off, would ATF's newest ruling apply?

And then you need to know how to contact candidates directly, something NRA does not see fit to make convenient.
Per Jeff Knox, only around 7% of those eligible to vote do, and they follow in lock-step with what the Nominating Committee recommends. Having tried to change this for years, and seeing how many are unaware or haven't lifted a finger, makes me inclined to say "No, there is no chance."
It also makes me wonder how gun owners who won't even dominate the NRA Board can make good on all that "Molon Labe!" floating around, but that refusal to get involved while things are easy makes it more likely they're going to get exponentially harder.
Mike V, is there any chance of flipping the board of the NRA to a board whose first principle is liberty at all cost? And any ideas on how we do it?I'm not talking to him now, since it sounds from the rest of his comment like he is involved in grassroots activism. This is addressed to those who are not. First you need to be a voting member. Are you? Are you even a member? Then you need to know who to vote for. How do you do that? Well here’s one way, but based on results, nobody cares.

They continue to do this because their sponsors allow it. Their sponsors continue to allow it because of apathy on the part of those who could change things, which would be gun owners who could let them know there is a cost to giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Too late, but here's the prime call list ...* Focused congress call lists like this should've been put together, distributed and posted on web sites weeks ago. But guys like Mark Levin were too busy advancing the allegedly perfect structural formula tweaks that are supposed to automatically save America without the need for focused organization and winning elections (as if having term limits since 1990 saved California!). Rush Limbaugh complained as always, but didn't lift a finger to organize an intelligent campaign. His staffers could easily have done it, but he didn't even bother to ask folks to mindlessly "call your representative" (even if your rep is Boehner or Pelosi). None of the conservative groups, Tea Party groups, gun groups or immigration sanity groups lifted a finger to organize and activate. None of the candidates for speaker lifted a finger. None of the 28 who voted against Boehner lifted a finger. And so we lost by four votes.* NAYLocal Zip DC phone Fax Local phone
